King Abdullah II of Jordan was in Cairo to enhance bilateral relations and discuss regional issues with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak. Among the many concerns addressed at the summit meeting included the Israeli-Palestinian quandary, trade cooperation with Egyptian natural gas and Jordanian medicine, Lebanon’s presidential election crisis and the political complexities in Iraq. In the course of discussion, the king and the Egyptian president “underlined the necessity to seize the available opportunities to reinvigorate the peace process and establish just and comprehensive peace which could ensure security and stability in the region based on international legitimacy and the Arab peace initiative. They affirmed that realizing real progress in the peace process is the only way to rid the region of the state of violence and instability plaguing it so many years.”
