The Princess of Asturias Awards 2020

The Princess of Asturias Awards ceremony streamed live yesterday. The list of recipients for the award were posted on the casareal.es website. 


The Princess of Asturias congratulated the recipients in a short speech.


King Felipe, Queen Letizia and their daughters held an audience for the award recipients prior to the Princess of Asturias award ceremony.

Prince Felipe Becomes King

King Juan Carlos I abdicated the throne on June 18th. His son, Prince Felipe, was sworn in as the King Felipe VI on June 19th. His daughter, Leonor, became The Princess of Asturias, heir presumptive to the Spanish throne. Details of the two ceremonies were released in a press pack.

Japan’s Princess Aiko Completes First Educational Milestone

Princess Aiko of Japan completed her first educational milestone this month when she graduated from Gakushuin Kindergarten. In front of her delighted parents, Crown Prince Naruhito and Crown Princess Masako, six-year old Aiko received her diploma at her kindergarten graduation ceremony today. She will begin classes at Gakushuin Primary School in April.

Princess Lilian Forgoes Glittering Nobel Prize Ceremony

Amidst the glittering spectacle and elegant dress, one particular royal missed the proceedings of the yearly Nobel Prize ceremony in Sweden on December 10th. Ninety-two year old Princess Lilian did not appear at the ceremony or banquet. It was deemed that it would be difficult for her to withstand the long event. Last year, Lilian attended the prize presentation, but shunned the banquet. She had been a part of the royal family presence since 1976. According to a royal spokesperson, “the Princess is an elderly lady."
