Laura Bush, the First Lady of the United States, was in Jordan recently to further enhance the US-Middle East Partnership relating to the health issues of breast cancer awareness and research. The King Hussein Cancer Foundation board of trustees’ chairperson, Princess Ghida Talal and director, Princess Dina Mired helped Mrs. Bush unveil the plans for a new breast cancer screening facility at the King Hussein Cancer Center on Thursday.
In her speech at the King Hussein Cancer Center, Mrs. Bush declared: “Today the partnership in Jordan is taking another step. We're just about to unveil the King Hussein Center new breast cancer screening facility, which will be a model for the rest of Jordan. One great component of this new center will be a program to expand the King Hussein Cancer Foundation's community outreach, and to educate women about the importance of early detection and treatment. This program, organized by the Foundation and Susan G. Komen for the Cure, will increase women's awareness, encourage volunteerism, and train Jordanians to become advocates for women's health.”
As the United States and Jordan continue to strengthen the ties involving health care issues, King Abdullah II stated: “The Kingdom has benefited a lot from this partnership with the US mainly with regard to awareness and research about cancerous diseases.”
