On September 8th, Queen Máxima spoke at the Austin FC Dinner whilst on a working visit to Texas. She put in a few words of remembrance about Queen Elizabeth II and praised the state for
being the biggest producer of renewable energy in the United States.
Here is an excerpt from Queen Máxima's dinner speech.
It is a privilege to be your guest in the Lone Star State. Of course, I would rather have been here with my husband, who was not able to join me. He sends you all his best wishes.
Tonight, our thoughts are with the Royal Family in the United and with the British people. We share their grief and we are grateful for everything Queen Elizabeth has done. We honour Queen Elizabeth best by following her example. By continuing our work for the common good and by strengthing bonds of friendship as best we can...
I was surprised to discover that our special bond goes back as far as 1840. When Texas and the Netherlands signed a Treaty of Friendship, Trade and Navigation. It's wonderful that our relationship is still flourishing after more than 180 years.
