Queen Máxima Speaks at Austin FC Dinner in Texas

On September 8th, Queen Máxima spoke at the Austin FC Dinner whilst on a working visit to Texas. She put in a few words of remembrance about Queen Elizabeth II and praised the state for being the biggest producer of renewable energy in the United States.

Here is an excerpt from Queen Máxima's dinner speech. 

It is a privilege to be your guest in the Lone Star State. Of course, I would rather have been here with my husband, who was not able to join me. He sends you all his best wishes.

Tonight, our thoughts are with the Royal Family in the United and with the British people. We share their grief and we are grateful for everything Queen Elizabeth has done. We honour Queen Elizabeth best by following her example. By continuing our work for the common good and by strengthing bonds of friendship as best we can...

I was surprised to discover that our special bond goes back as far as 1840. When Texas and the Netherlands signed a Treaty of Friendship, Trade and Navigation. It's wonderful that our relationship is still flourishing after more than 180 years.

King Willem-Alexander,Queen Máxima and Princess Beatrix conveyed their condolences to the British Royal Family upon the death of Queen Elizabeth II today.

We remember Queen Elizabeth II with deep respect and great affection. Steadfast and wise, she dedicated her long life to serving the British people. We feel a strong bond with the United Kingdom and its royal family, and we share their sorrow at this time. We are very grateful for our countries' close friendship, to which Queen Elizabeth made such an unforgettable contribution.

King Willem-Alexander Is Unable to Join Queen Máxima On Working Visit to the United States

According the Royal House of the Netherlands website, King Willem will not be joining Queen Máxima on a working visit to the United States next week.

His Majesty King Willem-Alexander will not participate in the working visit to California and Texas from 6 to 9 September 2022. This decision has been made on doctors' advice. The King is recovering from pneumonia and air travel at this time could impede a full recovery. The King's commitments in the Netherlands will not be affected by this decision and will go ahead as planned, albeit on a more limited scale.

King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima of the Netherlands sent their condolences to the family of the former Prime Minister of Japan, Shinzo Abe.

We were deeply saddened to learn of the fatal attack on former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. We have warm memories of our contacts with him, during bilateral visits and through the UN. Our thoughts go out to his family on this sad day.

Willem and Máxima Kick Off Dutch Festivities In New York

The Prince of Orange is in New York this week to celebrate the 400th anniversary of friendship between the Netherlands and the United States. He and his wife, Princess Máxima of the Netherlands, will participate in the New York festivities starting today and leave on Sunday, September 13th.

The ceremonial welcome began on the flight deck of the USS Intrepid. Prince Willem-Alexander gave a short speech after the formalities of introduction by the Mayor of New York and the US Secretary of State. The royal couple was presented with a Tiffany bowl which was etched with scenes of New York City. The Dutch naval frigate HMNLS Tromp fired a 21-gun salute and the Royal Netherlands Navy Band provided the music.

After the ceremony, Willem and Máxima visited the United States Military Academy at West Point. The prince addressed the corps of cadets and emphasized the importance of the alliance between the Netherlands and the United States.

The royal couple then headed to Albany for a reception and to view the New Netherland Project.

In the evening, Willem and Máxima returned to New York City to light the tower of the Empire State Building in orange. After the lighting, they were bestowed a gift of a miniature Empire State Building.

Princess Máxima did not disappoint fashion pundits with her choice of outfit for the first day; she was resplendent in a scarlet suit and small feather hat.

The Prince of Orange Brings Good Luck to The Netherlands Football Team

It was a good day for the Netherlands football team whilst they competed in the 2008 European Championships in Bern, Switzerland on June 9th. The Netherlands trounced Italy 3 to 0. It seems that the team had a lucky charm with the attendance of the Prince of Orange at the game.

Queen Beatrix Hosts the President of Germany

At the invitation of Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands, the president of Germany, Dr. Horst Köhler, and his wife, Eva Luise, officially visited the Netherlands from October 8th to October 10th which included the Haag, Rotterdam and the Euregio Twente. A state banquet was held in his honor at the Paleis Noordeinde. The queen lauded his country and said, “After all your country is economically and geographically – and psychologically – in the heart of Europe. It is in all our best interests that this heart continues to beat for Europe.”


On his whirlwind agenda, the president lunched with government officials at the Ridderzaal. He attended a meeting at the International Criminal Court. In tribute, the president laid a wreath at Rotterdam’s monument The Destroyed City sculpted by Ossip Zadkine. He met with Dutch business representatives at the Crowne Plaza Promenade Hotel. He attended a concert at Nieuwe Kerk with Queen Beatrix featuring the choir Carmina Mundi and visited the University of Twente. He rounded off his visit with a lunch at Twickel with the commissioner to the Queen in Overijssel, Mr. G.J. Jansen.
