Until January 6, 2008, winners of The Royal Awards for Painting will be exhibited at the Gemeentemuseum, The Hague. Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands presented the prizes to four promising young artists in accordance to the tradition started by King William III in 1871. The Amsterdam Royal Palace Foundation organizes the event. The potential candidates for the award must be under 35 years of age, Dutch nationality or hold a valid residence permit with established ties to the country and must not have won the award more than three times.
